Scripture Read: Psalm 129, 130
Key Verse: Psalm 130:5-6
“I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.”
Observation:
I was watching and waiting throughout the night, like most on the east coast, as Hurricane Irene blew through NJ. In the darkness I listened intently to the night, the howl in the distance, the approach of the wind, the thrashing of the trees and the creaking of the walls. I prayed the scripture that came to mind and began listening differently. I was listening for God. I asked for wisdom to know what needed to be done when the time came. There were two clear instructions. The first: Get your shoes on. So at 3:30am by flashlight I found my sneakers and laced them up. The second: Close your eyes. And I laid on the couch eyes closed, shoes on, listening and ready.
Application:
I can wait out each challenge along life’s path, listening to the clatter around me and living for the sun to rise the next day. But I would rather live differently – listen differently. I want to be listening for God, ready for his instruction and to live out what he says.
Prayer:
My Creator and protector make me ready as I listen and obey so that I can do what is required of me when that time comes.
