Scripture Read: Psalm 133, 134
Key Verse: Psalm 131:3
“It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes!”
Observation:
This Psalm has beautiful imagery. Anointing with oil in the Old Testament was often a symbol for God’s recognition of a position, a sacrifice, etc. In the New Testament, oil was often used for healing of people. They’re using it to explain how they feel through the eternal life the Lord has promised us.
Application:
I feel I can understand what they’re trying to describe. When was the last time you felt that feeling of total pleasantness, serenity & thankfulness? I feel it whenever I’m reminded how God is in control, when I’m driving into work on a beautiful day, when I go to sleep at night with the mild breeze that cloaks me… I feel it often & it’s always when I take a moment to step out of the chaos of life & focus on the simple free beauties that God provides us with on a daily basis. Eternal life being one of them.
Tke time out of your day. Be a cliche. Enjoy the pleasantness God has given you right here, right now.
Prayer:
Lord, I thank You for the free things in life; the sun, the moon, trees and subtle breezes on a beautiful day. We often forget to take in the sights & be present in the moment. I pray that we can find time to do so even if it’s brief. Thank You for Your Word & allowing us to learn & grow. Thank You for the heavens and the earth! Amen
